Wang Yung-ching, born in 1917, was a Taiwanese businessman who grew up in humble circumstances. He started working at a young age as a rice delivery man and soon opened a rice shop with a small loan from his father. He demonstrated a talent for business and, in 1954, borrowed a US aid loan to found the Formosa Company (later renamed Formosa Plastics) to produce PVC powder. Despite initial setbacks, he persevered and eventually built a "petrochemical kingdom". He earned a reputation as the "god of management" for his immense contribution to Taiwan's economy as the company expanded globally. Wang was also known for his involvement with other companies, including signing a contract in 1995 to create Inteplast, the world's biggest producer of Cartonplast. He was ranked by Forbes as the 178th richest person in the world in 2008, with an estimated net worth of US$5.5 billion. Wang passed away in his sleep in 2008 at his home in New Jersey, aged 91.

Wang Yung-tsai, the brother of Wang Yung-ching, also grew up in an impoverished family. He moved to Chiayi at a young age to continue his studies and help run the family rice shop. Before turning 20, he relocated to Shanqi (now Fengxiang), Hsinchu County, and became a contractor for bunker construction, gaining valuable experience in construction management. In 1954, he joined his brother in Kaohsiung to co-manage Formosa Plastics Corporation. The brothers faced significant challenges but worked tirelessly to build a successful company, overcoming obstacles with their determination to strive for excellence. Wang Yung-tsai was a golf enthusiast and woke up as early as 5 AM to play. He passed away in 2014 at the age of 93.
