Some types of plastics, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), are not widely recycled due to the complexity of the process, despite being commonly used in packaging, construction, and automotive industries. Recycling rates for PVC in Europe are estimated at just 3% for post-consumer waste. Other types of plastics, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is commonly used for drinks bottles, are known to be more recyclable.
